Half life 2 installation error (??)

I keep getting a error message popping up while trying to install this although it works fine on my friends pc. The error keeps saying...

Error 1335. The cabinet file 'hl2.cab' required for this installation is
corrupt and cannot be used.'

Strange thing is Im also getting it with another recent purchase I made during installation. I thought it may be my DVD drive but DVD film disc play perfectly. :s

you could try updating the firmware for the drive or you can also check your DMA settings are correct in hardware/device manager .

As for HL2 if u desperate to play it you can try download steam itself
register steam and register ur cd key then dl the contents through steam that should work

I actually read on an Half Life forum that if you get this error you should not deselect any items when installing and it should work fine. I did'nt and it does.
