Picture/Fax viewer

Postby venney » Sun Jan 22, 2006 6:15 pm

Ok here’s the problem, my troublesome girlfriend has messed up her fax viewer, so she cannot view pictures unless she opens it in ms paint. I think its maybe a missing file or something. I did do a small search and it came up with an F-secure thing, but she has f-secure and it says its fixed it.
I’ve told her to do a virus scan, but no luck.
Anyone have any ideas? Gecko? lol, jkin! but I do imagine you’ll fix it :D

Thanks
Lawrence on behalf of Steph!

No, it just like does nothing. Also if i change the view to thumbnails the pictures arent displayed there either.
Does it sound like a virus to you?

It doesnt sound like any virus that im familiar with. It almost sounds like her default settings or default photo handeling program has been changed. If you right click on a photo and go to "open with", can you select the pic\fax viewer from there?

If your correct liljim, would that also apply to why she isnt getting a preview when on thumbnails? Slideshow doesnt work either.
Thank you for your help though mate.

It would apply if another program is set as default.

you can also do this, right click the photo>open with> choose program

Click on pic and fax viewer and put a check in the box that says

"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"

If this doesnt work, we'll explore other causes.

Gecko it diddnt work. I typed rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1, and it said program not found or file not found or somthing like that.

I've tried every thing i could think of.
Any more suggestions?

Venney

Make sure the below file is there:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\shimgvw.dll

This is the dll that runs the fax viewer
if it's not there then I'll get a copy of it.
