Just got a slightly MORE worrying message. After POST it just threw up a error message about a missing file ,CONFIG.SYS or COMMAND.SYS or something, and it told me to run the repair option on my XP disk. I used FIXBOOT and everything up and running for now,I hope. :(

That once again is a hard drive issue and you say fixboot got it going again. :|

No I'm going to tell you to go to the manufacturers web site and download their HDD testing software.

Download
The PowerMax download is a self-extracting file.
1. After downloading to your Windows desktop, insert a clean formatted floppy diskette into your A:\ drive.
2. Double-click on the PowerMax diskette creator icon.
3. When the Maxtor pop-up screen displays, click on the "Create Floppy" option.
Use this floppy to boot your system and run the quick test first if it passes then run the Advanced test.
Do Not run any other test on the drive
