Adding HDD...

Postby Cactus » Sat Dec 27, 2003 9:05 pm

I have a 377Mhz pc with Win98SE on it.
It had a 4GB IDE HDD as primary master.
I added a 3GB IDE as the primary slave.
Everything is working fine.
It boots to the C; drive which is the original HDD.

I am using a Host Adapter and running a CD-Rom drive off it.
I have a 9.1GB SCSI ULTRA WIDE HDD....can I add this Harddrive as well,to the same Host Adapter?
or should the SCSI HDD be connected to its own Host Adapter?
How do I go about adding it?

Also what do I need on the new HDD to use them?Do they need an operating system?
Can I just reformat the drive then create my own folders on it?

You will need to have a SCSI controller card to use the SCSI drive, not an IDE controller.

Yes you should be able to just format the drives but you might need to f-disk the drives first before formatting.
After the drive has been formatted then use them as you like.

Yes it is an Adaptec SCSI Host controler.
Would I have to install a second controller or can I run 2 devices off 1 controller card?

As long as there are two SCSI connection on the controler card that will work just fine.
