Keyboard only works in bios!

Postby GlobalPhuture » Fri Mar 24, 2006 11:10 pm

I know im new to the forum but ive been working on the issue for 3 days now and i cant figure it out.

My keyboard stopped working except in bios, and i have a copy of BART PE and the keyboard works in there, which leads me to believe its my operating system which is windows 2000 sp4.

I cant get past my password but i can reach my files in bart pe but its an old copy so i cant burn my files to a disc only floppy and being a designer my files are way bigger than 1.44MB.

If i delete the "SAM" file while im in bart pe i know this will delete my password but i log in as "user" and then my password but will i lose all my files by deleting this "SAM" file cause ive read that this will delete all accounts but the "ADMIN" account (which mine is an ADMIN account)

I really just need to get these files off of here cause its fatal to the sucess of my company!

If anyone has dealt with this problem before id be very happy to talk with ya on how to fix it!

If i have forgotten any information please forgive me since im not an expert at computers just designing on them!

Thanks in Advance!!!

Welcome to the forums GlobalPhuture,

Can you boot into safe mode?
Reboot in to Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

If so try the Administrator account it usually does not have a password.

If its usb, try putting the keyboard into another slot. I have a lot of Dells that won't respond. You don't have to reboot, just switch usb ports.

That should let you get in
