Project Tahoe (w/pics)

I started a post about working on my escort but i put that on hold and started on my Chevy Tahoe. This isnt computer related but its another hobbie that i enjoy. Im taking pics as i go along so here's a few of what i've done so far.

First is the Head Unit, I went with a
Forgive the glare, it was kinda dark outside.



Next is the doors, im replacing the factory door speakers with 6.5" phoenix gold and 1" boss audio tweeters. I had to make a custom mount for the tweeters so they would fit where the factory tweeters were.

I already started on the enclosure for the subwoofers but it isnt finished. After that im going to build the amp rack and i'll post pics accordingly.

The door mount job looks real professional liljim you should have a real nice setup when you get it finished.

I’m so far behind time when it comes to car audio, as you know if it’s not raining I on the bike.
When it rains I drive an old ford bronco with a factory am/fm cassette stereo and the cassette player is broken.

Even my home audio system is old school, Kenwood tube type pre-amp and tuner and Bose speakers.
I’m so afraid of something going wrong with it that I never turn it off, I don’t want to cool down and then reheat the tubes.
It’s even run through a UPS for those short power losses, it will last about 30 minutes on the UPS.

Hey there Jim. I have done some car audio things 2 my car as well.
But already with the dvd player its more than I have spent.
I replaced the door speakers with Mutant X ones, I put Mutant X 6x9inch speakers in my parcel shelf, and i have a mutant X subwoofer + shark 1000Watt amp in the boot.
I also just spent 175 on a new head unit (£) which was a bargain, because it was 350 reduced to clear at 175, top of the range model.

I have installed it all my self, and it sounds pretty good. I have a subwoofer control box next to my steering wheel just to control the base on songs that don’t need it.
I like to think mine is a nice little set up. I also just got my exhaust (only the back box) changed for a nicer looking/sounding one, and I have replaced my door mirrors, 2 times now lol.
Next on my list are alloy wheels

Only thing with the dvd player units is that I think it would get stolen. I would be way to worried 2 leave it in.

Just a little update, im finished with the subwoofer enclosure and have it in place. Its built from 3/4" MDF wood and assembled with liquid nail and 2" screws. From there i fiberglassed the exterior then coated it with liquid bed liner, the same stuff that you would spray in the bed of a pickup truck. It was then primed and painted to look as it does in the pics. The interior of the box was sprayed with rubber undercarriage spray for sound dampening.

Im currently working on installing the amp rack and wiring it in.

Liking it a lot lil jim, i forgot how much bigger cars are in America.
I will take some pics of my car later and post them, you will see the size difference lol.

But thats good, i am looking forward to seeing the amp done, i have wires everywhere in my car lol.

Well here we go,

Amp Rack



Which contains 2 amps and a capacitor

Amp 1 is a 400X4 Phoenix Gold



Amp 2 is a 600X1 Phoenix Gold


Capacitor is a 3 farad SPL


Each amp has a 15" blue neon tube above it but i'm going to run a seperate 12v line for them that isnt done yet. There will be another panel over the amps and cap with plexiglass but thats not done yet either. Once thats done i'll reinstall the rear seats and call it quits.
