Problem: Computer gives "operating system not found" message on boot. First occurrence was after trying to swap hard drives. The former drive that worked, is no longer working. Gateway generic motherboard to the best of my knowledge (I found no clear identification)
Attempted fixes:
1) Swapped IDE cables
2) Reformat - Says it cannot locate a hard drive.
3) Swap harddrive - 4 valid hard drives, confirmed working, all failed.
4) Check BIOS - Not an expert, but I didn't see anything out of place.
5) Reset BIOS back to default.
6) Tried a boot floppy - "Windows could not boot because of a hardware configuration problem"
7) Double checked that harddrives were working in my other computer.
8) Reseated the RAM.
Is there anything I can do before I blame the motherboard and have to buy another one (and processor/case/ram. I have an old computer
)? Or should I just bite the bullet?

. Good luck
