windows login pc broken

Hi. Ok so last night I was looking for a solution to get rid of the iexplore.exe process. It was taking up 100k ram and was lagging my pc so I thought it must have been a virus. As you may know if you try to end the prcoess it just keeps re opening.
So I went looking on google for a solution and I came to another forum. This guy had the exact same problem I had and someone posted the solution.
It all seemed quite technical so I thought the guy knew what he was up to.

It said I was to first of all go into safe mode.
I was then to Browse in my registry to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\Currentersion\Winlogon

And then delete the the value : "Userinit"="userinit32.exe"

After that I stopped because I realised I didnt make any form of backup, then I find I can't log in. I get to the log in screen, I log in, then it logs me out. So it's now impossible to log in. I try to log in on safe made as the adminstrator but it does the same.
I then try to run the Pc built in system recovery from the boot screen but I get an error saying something like windows cannot continue this file ( cant remember it ) is either corrupt, unreadable, or missing.

So I have no way to log into my pc and no way to restore it.
I have lost my Windows XP disc which I believe would fix this.

Can anyone help me out? If I can't do anything do you think if I was to buy Windows XP off ebay I would be able to restore my pc?

I can help with this but you will need access to a system with a CD burner.

You will want to copy this to notepad and print it.

All typed commands have a space(s) in them so take careful note on the spacing used in the commands.

First you will need to download
Install Bart’s PE insert your Windows Xp CD and start Bart’s PE.
Follow the on screen instructions to create your bootable CD iso.
Now burn the iso with your preferred burning software and use the CD to boot the troubled system.

Once the system boots and you see the Bart’s PE background exit the networking you won’t need it.
Click the start and select the command link to open a command box, at the prompt type:
c:\ and press enter

next type:
cd windows\system32\config and press enter

type:
ren system system.bad and press enter

type
cd c:\ and press enter

Leave this box open we still need it.

The next part is a little tricky we are going to use the run box to get the name of a folder:
Click the start again and select run and browse to:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore
There should be a folder with a bunch of number for the name like this:
{D86480E3-73EF-47BC-A0EB-A81BE6EE3ED8}
Right click on the folder and select rename (but don’t rename it) now hit the Ctrl + C keys at the same time (copy)
Leave this window open you will still need it.

Now go back to the command box and type:
cd (don’t forget the space) next right click inside the command box and select paste and press enter.

Back to the run window that is open, continue browsing the long folder name inside it will be folders named RP1 RP2 RP3 …
Browse to the next to the last one remembering it’s name.

Back to the command box type:
cd (don’t forget the space and the name of the folder from above) and press enter

next type:
cd snapshot and press enter

now type:
copy _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM c: and press enter

type:
cd c:\ and press enter

type:
ren _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM system

type:
copy system c:\windows\system32\config

Exit out the command box and the browse window click start select shutdown > restart.
Remove the cd and let the system reboot you should be able to login now.
