computer does not see my cd rom any more

i cannot use my cd rom. i tried to upgrade the drivers but it says does not see the hardware for the device. i went to the device manager but there is a yellow exclamation mark on my cd rom. i put in a different cd rom and also changed the cord to it. but still nothing. it has power cause it opens but will not play.
