Hi im new here, just wanted some help.

I just built myself a new pc , its a AMD Athlon XP 2600+ , 768MB Ram , 40gb Western Digital Hard drive and a Asus A7N8X Mother board.

What i wanted to know is why im having to wait longer for XP to load at start because the blue loading bar takes long to load up can anyone help me i be greatful thanks.

Bootvis is a Boot performance trace visualization tool for use with Windows XP systems. It gives a graphical view of what processes are doing what and when during boot and allow you to optimise your boot up. A very handy tool.
Unzip it and you have Bootvis.exe click on it. You will now see the GUI of bootvis.
Now go to File > New and choose "Next boot trace" or "Next boot and drivers chase". Leave everything else as is and get ready for a reboot in 15 seconds.
Ok we are back after a reboot. Click on the Bootvis.exe, it will now output the results, once it has finished generating the report, you will see graphs 5 or 6 graphs. They look a bit confusing at this stage.You may see "warning disk write caching is disabled" Bootvis Automatically enables this for you... but you can manually enable this by going to Device manager >> Right click on your hard drive >> Properties >> Policies Tab >> Check " Enable Disk write caching"

Now this is where the fun begins ! From the main menu .. Click on Trace >> optimize system. And yes you guessed it another reboot .... :-)

Once you have re-booted and are back at your desktop, dont touch anything, just wait.

You will see a message box "Please wait for bootvis to load" ... about 20 seconds later another meassge box will appear"Optimising system for boot performance" basicallay bootvis is happily rearranging the boot files for a faster startup
One final thing to do, is to see if this has made a difference, get the watch out again and reboot. Compare the original time to the new time and you will be pleasantly suprised, i managed to shave 35 seconds off mine. I have heard people reduce their boot time to 20 seconds........"

See if this helps you figure out the cause. Also check the main article, posted above.

Thanks for your help , i thought it was my hard drive or something over heating that was doing this? , thanks tho! . i will try doing that thanks a lot again :cool:

hey i tried that program followed ur intructions exactly, but it crashed the first time i rebooted on the win xp loading screen, went to safe mode then it showed the results maybe theres something else wrong ? thanks for helping tho

maybe i should format again ? or use a different operating system im not sure any other help or info would be greatful

i didnt get any errors in results just graphs of the cpu usage etc... so aint exactly sure :?:

i sent ya a email brad from my hotmail account. errm delays like the blue bar goes past 6-8 times before it loads xp/desktop, while on old pc only blue loading bar went past 3 times i mean shouldnt be like that sould it? my old pc was a p3 450mhz as well!

Really couldn't tell much from your Screenshot. The program has a lot of other categories...
Anyway, I could see that your CPU usage is 100% at the beginning of startup. I also noticed that you have Norton in your taskbar. Do you have it set to scan the boot or Bio's?
How long, in time, is this delay?

ranges from about 40-50 secs! sometimes longer when i isntall stuff new errm its scanning boot records and master boot records dunno about bios its the 2004 version tho i cant really tell from the settings ! tahts all it says about boot sectors anyway, nothing about bios brad.

I'm not a Norton fan so I can't be sure but most AV programs have options to scan at boot. This could add to your boot time. 40-50 secs. isn't really all that bad. When you boot after new installs it will take a little longer as the system configuration is updated. I'd check Norton options.

I'm not saying that your problem is answered. You still never addressed my suggestions.
I've got a 1.7 ghz and it boots in about 2 min. total. I'm happy with that.
Your problem, as described, has nothing to do with programs loading. You described the problem as occuring at/during the boot logo. Programs load at the very end. Removing unnecessary programs will decrease your boot time.
I don't think ram would help your boot time.
There could be things going on during your system boot and I'd investigate further but if your total boot time is 2-3 min. I don't think I'd be too unhappy. I stiill think it's Norton.
I use Panda Anti-virus/Firewall. I believe it is the very best. It is not free. It also takes a tick longer at system boot. If you're looking at cost I'd recommend AVG and Zone Alarm.
