Hello Whit3Knight_Cymru,

This does sound like a spyware problem to me.

Please download and save it to your desktop.

To extract HijackThis:

1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.

Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.

Whit3Knight_Cymru,

I don't really see anything bad that would stop the system from connecting.
Symantec could be the problem if it is not all configured right, try disabling Symantec products, then see what happens.

This system does have a known popup generator "MyWebSearch" please follow the below to remove it:

Please copy this to Notepad and print it. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
You should not have any open windows when you are following the procedures below.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following:
(They may or may not be there)
mwsoemon.exe

Uninstall the following via the Add/Remove Panel (Start->(Settings)->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs) if they exist:
MyWebSearch

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Remember to reset these when done.
Delete the following Files/Folders if they exist:

C:\Program Files\MYWEBSEARCH\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe

Click Start, click My computer and then right click on your C: drive and select "Properties"
Now click the "Disk cleanup" button, in the next window put a check next to Recycle Bin, Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files click OK and then click yes in the popup window.

Restart you computer and post a new HiJackThis log when you reply.

   Hi Gecko.......... Really thought this would be the end of this saga but alas no its not.........

Right pc is faster and working fine it connected to my internet no problem at all did as you said and updated norton etc etc i was using cable and an rg45 connection..........

Went over to his house he is using an adsl modem with a usb connection and no would not connect to the internet i used the instal cd provided. (Incedently its a new modem and filter) and got the same message which i will post below. I also tried a manual connection and got the same message he rang his internet supplier (Tiscali) they said it may be an external and internal modem conflict???? if its using an usb connection will it still need an internal modem (its kinda an oldish machine) the code it gave was.....

error 775 after clicking for more info it said this " the remote computer may be blocking your connection because of a caller id rule, a schediling policy that allows access only during specific times or another setting"

ps i also tried after turning norton off too grrrrrr

Could it be the pci modem that has given up (would it still need to use this) ??????

Whats my next action as the fight and my patience go on........

Cheers Ade

Whit3Knight_Cymru,

I have not abandoned you I've just been trying to get a handle on your problem.

Error 775 is actually a dialup networking error from what I've been reading.
I even did some searching on the Tiscali forums but only found one reference and that was for a dial up account.
Boy there are a lot of unhappy people on the Tiscali forums.

Please go to Start > Control panel > Network connections, are there any dialup accounts listed there?

The only other thing I can think of is that the install cd has some wrong information loaded in it like the dial number.

Please go to Start > Control panel > Network connections > Tiscali Broadband, what are the numbers listed in the Dial section?
