Recovering Data From Failed RAID 0 Array

Postby MartinC » Mon Jan 19, 2004 8:29 pm

Hi guyz and Galz, wonder if someone can help me out.

I had two IDE 40gb ata 100 hard disks, connected via sata convertors to my onboard sata raid controller.
This was a storage drive, and was not running my system, my system is still up and running with no problems.

The raid 0 array was up and running just fine, until one the ide drives failed. Is it possible for me to recover the data from either of the drives ?

I'm using Windows XP Pro + SP1. I would like to do it without having to send the drives away if possible.

Many thanks for any help ....

I'm not an authority on RAID but it doesn't look good.
Here's a pretty good wrap-up:

Hope some of the others can give you some better advice.

Am I right in thinking that RAID 0 is striped? If so, part of any one file will have been on the dead drive - if that drive is totally dead then I don't know of any way of getting it back. That's one of the downsides of using a striped array :(
