CherB,

Just use the Killbox you already have, also use the renamed Hijackthis.

It didn't work this time either, as soon as I reached my Comcast home page a website popped up in a new window. Also, when I tried to run those two files before starting Killbox, it still said "DLL UnregisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered."

Here is the new log:

CherB,

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
When VundoFix opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the
Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

After the reboot(s) post a new Hijackthis (renamed one) log

I ended up running it twice because I forgot to disable McAfee the first time, which picked up on one of the files (and couldn't get rif of it). I haven't gotten a popup this time, so the VundoFix might have worked.

CherB,

Yes that got it, just a little cleanup to do for the missing files.

Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B1E95FBD-BA7C-4055-A238-7A57715BEF48} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\pmkhg.dll (file missing)

You really need to update to service pack 2 otherwise you will be reinfected! often within hours!
Please go and update your windows.
(note you must use Internet Explorer to access Microsoft's update)

If you can't download SP2 from Microsoft Update, you can order it on CD from

In that case Microsoft has a security update that will protect you until you can install service pack 2

The least you should do is get a software firewall like free version

It had actually not finished installing when I made the last post, and ran into a few pitfalls, but seems to be functioning now. I chose McAfee as the default security, so do I let the Windows run simultaneously i.e. the two firewalls?

Thanks.

CherB,

You should let windows set itself to automatic update, there are at least 35 other security updates after windows service pack 2.

You should only have one firewall running I would disable windows firewall.

It actually downloaded about 53 updates, so my computer was sadly out of date in that department. I got it just a couple of months before SP2 went into effect, and was scared to install it after hearing all the horror stories about it back then. I guess I'd just been lucky until now.

I turned off the Windows firewall and only have the McAfee one running now, automatic update is now set as well.

Thanks for the help.
