Postby D_N_M » Sun Apr 08, 2007 6:35 pm

Hello I've been having some strange things happening I noticed through netstat -a that vrp1.ttn.xpc-mii.net is connecting to different ports ( in the 3,000's) and wierd titles before google.com are similar. I have scanned using Spybot S&D, rootkit revealer, ewido and My etrust internet security suite scans. I have lost half of My bookmarks as of now and getting updates every 5 minutes from microsoft??? I got 29 updates from microsoft last night and the come with a new one like i said every 5 minutes or so which is REALLY strange to Me??? I have automatic updates on. I also have blocked www.imrworldwide.com because of the info from google about the vrp1.ttn.xpc-mii.net which turns out to be a tracking company. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello D_N_M, welcome to our forums

I really don't see but one bad entry in your log, let's fix it and then do a little more investigation.

Start HijackThis and click "Do a system scan only" put a check next to each of the following entries:
O16 - DPF: {D4323BF2-006A-4440-A2F5-27E3E7AB25F8} - http://a532.g.akamai.net/f/532/6712/5m/ ... 12/player/ install/installer.exe

Now click the "Fixed checked" button and then close HijackThis

Click Start, click My computer and then right click on your C: drive and select "Properties"
Now click the "Disk cleanup" button, in the next window put a check next to Recycle Bin, Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files click OK and then click yes in the popup window.

Restart your computer Start HijackThis and click the "Open the misc tools section".
Near the top put a check next to "List also minor sections (full)" and then click the "Generate startuplist log".
Notepad will popup copy the contents of notepad and post it in this thread along with a new Hijackthis log.

D_N_M,

I still don't see anything bad being started.

As for the kb929338 update that keeps downloading lets try a direct download first.
Please go and directly download the update and install it.
After installation is complete reboot your system and see if the download problem is resolved.

D_N_M,

Let's see if we can get back to a working system, we'll ignore the update problem for now.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
* Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
* Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning:
1. Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
2. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
3. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
4. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
5. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
6. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
7. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan in your reply.

No go Gecko.
All i get is (HTTP ERROR 403) you are not authorized to view this page.Says the same thing about Firefox. I don't know if uninstalling ca etrust and reinstalling it would do anything I only have about 30 days left on that subscription but I already have a new 1 year etrust internet security suite I havn't installed yet it's still in the box.Maybe the new CD would catch something in safe mode? I dunno it's really the same 2007 copy I have now but maybe the one I have now is corrupt? something is certainly going on My Firewall has now blocked 10 intrusions in the last few days and it has been on 3 blocked intrusions for almost a year.I don't want to loose another PC I had this happen before and it just got to the point to where it would not even boot into safe Mode.

Thanks again for your help

D_N_M,

It sure sounds like you have a trojan, lets try a different link to AVG anti spyware, try
You should be able to download AVG from this location.

If updateing AVG fails with a 403 page then try booting into safe mode with networking.
Reboot in to Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode with network option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode with network.

See if AVG will update now.
You could also try running your etrust anti virus from safe mode.

Ok Gecko I couldnt use that link either but had the idea to have my wife send Me the AVG download via e-mail from her PC @ work and had to really play with it to get it to Finally download. Then had to play with the update cause it would not update till I right clicked on the icon in the system tray and clicked run online update. then went to safe mode and ran the scan but no trojan? I also ran a new HJT log in safe mode. another thing is I wiped out Firefox as I could not use it and to actually manually delete on Firefox as there were 2 in My add remove programs but I saved the setup for Firefox so I'm back on Firefox for now I guess. Here are the reports.

Thanks again Gecko

D_N_M,

We are getting down to the a short list anyway, a rootkit is the next thing we will check for.

Please download extract it to your root like this:
C:\rkr\RootkitRevealer.exe

Close all other programs, windows and disable your screen saver before you start RootkitRevealer.
While RootkitRevealer is running, you shouldn't do anything at all with the PC.
Put down the mouse, back away slowly, and let the program do its work.

Start RootkitRevealer.exe and press the Scan button.
It will take some time to finish an hour is common so just wait it out.
Once the scanning is finished RootkitRevealer will create a log, please copy the contents of that log into your reply.

D_N_M,

To turn of your screen saver right click on your desktop in an open place and select Properties.
Go to the Screen saver tab and click on the dropdown box and select None, click apply.
