Hi Scharr

Usually when it's a game, I recomend that you go to the game's website and look for patches. Almost every high intensity graphic video game has an issue or two with one or two video cards.

Hi Icecube.

I do remember that FFXI had problems in the past with nVidia. But that was solved for a lot of people by downloading stuff from the nVidia site.

FFXI automatically patches (if need be) every time you start it up.

But maybe the problem is that, even though I -thought- I downloaded the most recent drivers and whatnot, that I actually didn't get those exact ones? Sometimes those sites make you dig for ages just to find what you're after.

Wanted to post an update on this situation.

After digging around a few days back for several hours again on countless forums, I started to notice a lot of people mentioning something about their sound cards in relation to this actual problem. I scoffed at first, but then I remembered something odd. After this crash happened, I would shut down the system, reboot, and reload the game. For a short while after logging back in, the game sounds wouldn't work right. Missing sound channels and whatnot.

So, after I did a lot of digging, I was finally able to find the most recent drivers for my sound device possible (which was a bit of a hassle, considering my SB! Live device is no longer in service). The drivers were installed, and I haven't had a crash since.

I am still considering doing a full system wipe and whatnot, just because I never have done one, but it is good to know that I may have finally found the solution to this nagging problem. As obscure as it was.
