New User Here--Hijack This Log File

Postby astro104 » Mon Jun 04, 2007 8:00 pm

Hi...my computer has been having trouble running for about a week and a half now. I think what happened is that I downloaded some executables from limewire which contained viruses or malware. I have been receiving bsod stop errors since that time. I have downloaded, updated, and ran ad-aware and spybot. I also having Windows Defender operating on my pc. After running these, my computer runs much smoother; however, I still tend to receive bsod stop erros from time to time. The most frequent one is when my computer is idle for a while. The other that I discovered recently is when I try to get pictures from my digital camera. My pc crashes and a memory dump occurs.

Here's my Hijack This Log File:

Hello astro104, and welcome to our forums

Your logs is clean :)

To find out what is causing the BSOD you will need to look in the event viewer.
Go to Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer > look in the system section.

You are looking for any red icons, double click on the icon.
Click inside the 'Description' section then highlight the text and copy and paste it into notepad.
At the bottom of the event window check 'words' and then copy and paste that text also
Then past it all into your reply to this thread.

If you don't show any errors in the event viewer then:
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Startup and Recovery section
Settings button > System Failure section > check the box 'Write an event to the system log'

Hi astro104,

Stop Error 0x000000D5: DRIVER_PAGE_FAULT_IN_FREED_SPECIAL_POOL
Are you by chance running IIS web server?

If so then according to it's some client program that is causing the error.

If not then there is a good chance this is some type of malware/trojan combo infection.
In that case please download HijackThis http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis.zip and save it to your desktop.

To extract HijackThis:

1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.

Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.

astro104,

You're right the log is still clean,
however that does not mean that you are not infected with a rootkit.

I suggest that you download extract it to your root like this:
C:\rkr\RootkitRevealer.exe

Close all other programs, windows and disable your screen saver before you start RootkitRevealer.
While RootkitRevealer is running, you shouldn't do anything at all with the PC.
Put down the mouse, back away slowly, and let the program do its work.

Start RootkitRevealer.exe and press the Scan button.
It will take some time to finish an hour is common so just wait it out.
Once the scanning is finished RootkitRevealer will create a log, please copy the contents of that log into your reply.

astro104,

Yes you have a rootkit but this one is not too hard to remove.

Download and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Reboot into Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Choose your usual account.

Now open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

astro104,

It looks like SDFix removed the rootkit without errors.

Are you still getting the BSOD?
