Hello, everyone. I like to think I'm fairly okay when it comes to computer, but I just can't conquer this problem. I use Windows XP. My recycle bin shows that it is full; however, when I open it, the bin seems to be empty, even when I select "show hidden files and folders." When I go to empty the recycle bin, it gives me the following error:
"Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot remove folder Dc2: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
I have used every solution I could find on the internet, to no avail. I have tried ending every single non-essential process (using a tool called End It All) and then emptying the bin, but again got the same error.
If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.

Hello nowhereman, and welcome to our forum.
Have your tried booting into safe mode and then empty the recycle bin.
Reboot into Safe mode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
Have your tried booting into safe mode and then empty the recycle bin.

If safe mode didn't work then most likely you have some type of malware/spyware infection.
Please download HijackThis http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis.zip and save it to your desktop.
To extract HijackThis:
1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.
Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.

What is the exact name of the file(s) that you cannot delete from the recycle bin?
You do have a few things that should be fixed but I don't see anything that would be causing you to not empty your recycle bin.
Sometime these things are hidden until you start fixing other things that are doing the hiding.
That is why I'm recomending you use AVG Anti-Spyware to do the major cleaning then we will fix anything that is left over.
Please download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 from
and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
5. Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
6. Under "Reports"
* Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
* Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
Reboot your computer into SafeMode:
Restart Windows after you see the BIOS screen and before Windows starts to load.
Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears.
Use the Arrow key to ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning:
1. Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
2. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
3. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:

5. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.

Since I can't see any files in my recycle bin at all, I don't know what file it is that I can't delete. The only clue is in my first post, the error message which says it's a folder called Dc2. When I try to empty the bin, it sometimes tells me a number of files, and sometimes just the name of the most recent file I tried to delete (in today's case, 5 files, and then the installer for hijackthis.
I'll try the anti-spyware and see what that does.

This is what the recycle.bat gives me (rather than just opening and going away)
Parameter format not correct -
Path not found - C:\recycled
The system cannot find the path specified.
c:\recycled\*.*, Are you sure (Y/N)? ((I enter y))
The system cannot find the path specified.
C:\*.*, Are you sure (Y/N)? ((I enter y and it quits))
Am I reading it right that the system can't even find the recycle bin?
