Desktop not loading once logged in

Postby dmaselby » Wed May 30, 2007 1:01 pm

Hi

I just reinstalled Windows XP SP1 after a refreshing format.

Once i had complted the installation - as it was going to log onto windows for the first time is just kind of "hung" after i had logged on.

I thought it was frozen or something but when i press control+alt+delete i can still see the Windows Task Manager and that it has the correct processes running. It also confirms that the Administrator is logged on and active.

I have tried a few things so we can eliminate them now:

Went to "New Task" and typed in explorer but all that does is you briefly see the desktop (like half a second) and then it all dissapears again leaving you with a plain colour screen again.

Also tried typing c:windows but it did the same thing

Any help would be great

Rgds

On the install, were all external devices disconnected from the Unit? Was the install done with a second hard drive hooked up? This could slow down the first initial boot to desktop from 20 minutes to several hours.
