SP2 Installation Woes

Postby Jazzman » Mon Aug 27, 2007 12:43 pm

Hello all!

I'm trying to install XP service pack 2, but every time it installs it comes up with error code 0x87FF054F. I can't find this error on Microsoft's site, or on the net anywhere (except one person on a Lavasoft forum who solved it by installing a whole new copy of Windows with SP2 included). This is mucho frustrating-o.

Many thanks as ever

Jazzman,

How are you trying to install the sp2, through the windows update website or from a file?

What does it say in the windows update log found at C:\windows\Windows Update.log?

You could try deleting everything in the C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files\ folder and try again.

Jazzman,

If you are doing this from a Cdrom, try coping the file to the hard drive and run it. If the Cdrom is bad or the CD is bad, you'll get an error.

if you are running it from a CD it has been my experience (from mass loading SP2 to systems) that during the cleanup process it will throw an error. If this is when yours is erroring out, reboot the machine. Once you get back in right click my computer, go to properties, and look under system on the general tab if it says service pack 2 your all set if not see if you can get a new disk from Microsoft at one time on their site you could get them for free I don't recall where exactly.

Jazzman,

I ask again, how are you trying to install sp2 through the windows update or from a file?
Because it looks like your are either loosing your internet connection or you have non compatible hardware for sp2.
