Computer auto restart?

Postby redsunpro » Fri Jan 23, 2004 12:58 am

My computer likes to restart all by itself every once in a while

The worst part about it, is that its not restarting at any particular time, just when ever it feels like it. Some times I am playing a game when it does it and other times I am listening to music or I just have the computer on while I read a real book and I look over and it is restarting. I believe that it might be my mobo but I have no idea how to check. I have run Memtest for about 5 hours without any errors. Also I have all the drivers that should work. I have reinstalled windows fearing that it was a virus and also put system works on my computer so I dont think it is a software problem. Down below is my system specs, please tell me the info you need to diagnose my computer and I will post it ASAP.

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0Ghz
512 DDR 2700 333 PNY RAM
Soundblaster live 5.1
linksys 10/100 networkcard
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro All in wonder
Biostar M7VIP Mobo
Sony DVD/CD-RW
Acer 56x CD-Rom
Western Digital 160GB drive (one 40gig partition and 120gig)
2 case fans (one large molex plug)
Windows XP Home SP1

onboard devices disabled to prevent conflict.

I would really appreciate your help.

I would suggest that you read about installing Support Tools to read your memory.dmp file.
Then you should read on using the Dumpchk.exe and Pstat.exe
you installed to get the stop codes from your memory dump.
Once you have the stop codes, then we can find out what is causing the problem.

Soo... I installed all the tools and tried to run it and it gave me this..

C:\Program Files\Support Tools>dumpchk.exe Memory.dmp
Loading dump file Memory.dmp
**** DebugClient cannot open DumpFile - error 80070002

I dont know how to get around it.. Microsoft's support page sucks and I am at a loss yet again.

Since I put in this other RAM I have been trying to play FF11 and I still crash to desk top.. and some thing else happend.... It went to a blue screen with nothing on it. Odd, I have never seen anything like this before.
