Just download it and run it, it will then help you create the boot disks :)

The windowsXP CD is definitely bootable - if you have a 'recover CD' then that sounds like it might be something different. However if it shipped with the laptop I would expect it to be bootable anyway. In theory all you need to do is go into the BIOS & change the boot order so that the CD is first :)
