Help with a Boot problem!

Postby Saece » Thu Jan 03, 2008 10:28 am

Hi guy i put together a pc for a friend after doing 1 for me and 1 for my mum without any trouble but on my friends pc i have put together i cannot get it too boot from the HDD regardless off the priorty list in the bios option it allways insists on having the windows cd in the drive on the boot part.

So far i've tried various combo's of the boot lis in the bios and fixmbr on the recovery console.

Oh and if the disk is not in we get a 'SYSTEM DISK INVALID PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK'

Also it may or maynot be related but the light on his pc dvd drive is permantly on why is this?

Are you certain that the bios is seeing the HDD?

Is it SATA or IDE?

There are a few dvd drives that have a constant light if a disk is in it, it usually alternates colors when in use. If the light stays on with no disk in it then there could be a problem with it.

The bios does see the HDD

The light on the dvd is allways on even without a disc in it, but it plays dvds/cd's fine installs from it etc etc!
