hi all can someone help me with a weird problem please

Postby slimpunkass » Sat Jan 12, 2008 3:19 am

i have
amd athlon 64 x2 6000
radeon 3850 256mb
3 gig ram ddr2
160gig hd
my problem is this
when i go into games and it starts to run it lags weird.
im trying to explain the best i can.i was playing race 07(race game)and it started ok then gradually started to skip frames almost, then it slowed down to almost dead stop then started again.the lagging is really weird as i say like skipping frames.it does it on other games a s well.yet ive never had a problem before it.my pc played anything.crysis on high, bioshock, unreal 3 the lot.no problem at all.this is really annoying me.ive reformatted and it hasnt changed it.i ahve overclocked my card from 669/889 to 700/1000.
but can overcloking cause this strange skipping?any help would be appreciated as its driving me mad.

Hi slimpunkass, welcome to pctechforums.

Overclocking can cause overheating which in effect will cause lagging. Overclocking beyond what the card can handle will also cause it. With that system your probably overclocking your video for nothing, you might gain 5 fps and risk frying your card. I would set it back stock and see if it runs smooth. If nothing else, clock it down to 680/900 or so. If it doesnt straighten out once its turned down then we'll explore other options.

Ok, i removed most of what you posted because of the length. Were gonna take a different approach.

Please download and save it to your desktop.

To extract HijackThis:

1. Right-click your file HijackThis.zip and from the menu select "Extract All".
2. The Extraction Wizard Window will appear, Click "Next".
3. Click Browse and navigate to "C:\" or the "C:\Program Files" and click "Create A New Folder" and call it "HJT" or "HijackThis" or whatever that is easy to remember and then click OK.
4. Click the Extract button.
5. Close the HijackThis.zip dialogue box.

Now double-click on hijackthis.exe and when the window opens, Press the Scan now and save a logfile button and then when it is done, copy and paste the contents of the notepad it opens as a reply to this post.
