Masters, Slaves and SATA

Postby sureno » Sun Jan 20, 2008 2:42 pm

I just bought an ASUS P5K Premium mobo, it has 6 sata ports, 4 red masters and 2 black slaves, i have 4 hard drives? first hd is the os which is fine and connected to a master port, the second however is connected to a master port too but is only recognised in the bios and not in xp under my computer but it is visible in hardware devices? the two black slave ports are being utilised by my two remaing larger hd's and they both show fine. this leaves me with 2 remaining sata ports both of which are masters, i have connected my dvd burner on port 6 so only 5 remains free. how do i get the 2nd hd to show and be accessible in windows xp

many thanks
paul

has the second hd been formatted or is it a brand new drive? XP will not see a drive that doesnt have a formatted partition.

Theres several ways to do this, is one of them. You can use it to create a bootable cd that will allow you to create a formatted partition.

Another way would be to get the software from the drive manufacture. Seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital, etc. all have their own software for this.
