Quicktime

I have a strange fault with Quick Time player.
I downloaded the latest version 6.5.
When I try to play any quicktime movie file I get sound no vision.
Then I found if I open the quick time player on my desktop then double click the movie file it plays o/k.
If I close the player down then double click the movie file its back to sound no vision.
Any suggestions appreciated

The files area allready associated with Quicktime.
As I said they play sound only in the quicktime player.
I did right click and verified that this was so.
