new vga cooler on the way

Postby liljim » Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:18 am

i ordered a new cooler for my 8800gt hoping to get the temps back under control. I played COD4 for about 45 minutes and starting seeing glitches, i closed it and check temps to find i was running 81c! I can hit the 70's after about 30 minutes of F.E.A.R. so its time to do something about it.

I ordered because it had good reviews all the way around. The biggest complaint was it has a 4 pin molex connector so some people couldnt change the fan speeds but i have a fan controller that runs all my other fans with room to add this one with no problem.

I will post the temps once the cooler gets here and installed for a reference to anyone else. Hopefully it does the job.

im going with a thermaltake duOrb

the card isnt hurt, as long as its cool it runs great.

airflow, lol. I couldnt get any more if i wanted to.

I'll take some pics and show you but i have 4@120mm, 1@80mm without counting the cpu, psu and stock gpu fans. All fans are running at 100%. CPU stays in the hi 30's, low 40's under a load.

My gpu fan is single slot which is what i thought i wanted just to conserve room. Now i know i would have been better off with a double slot card.

sounds completely worth it mate. Is it louder?
Aren’t you going to have hot air in your case? I cant tell if the standard one had a built in exhaust fan or not.

its not louder to me at all venney, no louder than the original for sure. I dont have to much hot air in the case, theres a 120mm exhaust fan in the case just above the card. The original cooler had just the fan shown in the pic and a really crappy excuse for a heat sink. There was nothing impressive about it at all.

Cant really say theres any fps improvements, but i have alot more stability. Im going to run a game for a couple hours tonight to see how it holds up but i ran the full demo video on 3d mark and only saw 53c where i was 65c before.

I intend on playing for an hour, checking temps, another hour and checking again and i'll post the results. If i even get to do that it will be a major improvement as i was lucky to get a straight hour before crashing previously.
