MR314 router troubles

Postby djsh4dow » Mon Feb 02, 2004 6:08 am

Hi. I have a Netgear MR314 router and have been having nothing but trouble with it. For some reason I cannot connect to the internet when I am connected through it. When I go to network connections and double click the ethernet card I'm using, it shows that I am recieving 0 packets. When I try to repair it, it says that it cannot renew the IP address. I also cannot go to the software for the router. When I type in the default gateway in my web browser it says "Cannot find the search page." or something like that. I was able to set up the router and configure it along with my print server, but I do not know a whole lot about networking. Does anybody have any ideas or know what steps I should take to fix this. I have a SiS900 PCI fast ethernet adapter (onboard) with windows xp home ed.

Yes. I can connect to the internet if I use a USB connection directly or just directly connect a CAT5 from my modem to my computer. I have cable. And yes I am using CAT5 wires.

You said you could not get to the router software - yet you also say you managed to configure the router. How did you configure it if you could not get to the router?

Did you remove the proxy settings on your Internet browser? Did you remove the dial-up settings on your browser? The computer may not have received an IP address.
I'm assuming you are running WinXp.
Go to Start / Run / cmd / Type Ping 192.168.?.? (Your Router's IP.)
What do you get?
If it fails try typing ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew
Now try to ping again.
Do you have WinXp's Firewall enabled? You might try disabling it and trying.
You never stated that this was a wireless Router. You are connected to it by a cable, right?
Here's your Routers . Once you're able to access it I'd download the Firmware.
