How to record tv shows

I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong section but I would like to ask how to record tv shows so I may view it later?

1. What are the hardwares I need?
2. What are the softwares needed?
3. How do I install it in the television?

I would also appreciate if anybody would send me to a site where I can read about the basic installations.
