laptop windows loading problems...

I have a 2 laptops that a friend asked me to look at and they both have boot problems.

The first one :

Acer Extensa 4220 on Vista
When loading Windows it comes up with the BSOD. When loading windows drivers ( on booting into safe mode), it stalls on the line " Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys" for a few mins and then reboots. it then tries to load windows but nothing happens and the screen stays blank.

I'm under the impression theres a hardware or driver problem here but do i need to re-install windows or is there an easier fix?

UPADTE: ive just found out that this laptop took a fall so im wondering could there be HD damage ?


The second one:

Acer Aspire 3000 on XP

When booting up the screen stays blank and no pcture/graphic at all.

I did some searching on crcdisk.sys and it seems that this is a common problem with different solutions. From what I read it could have been caused by a windows update or a driver update. You should be able to "repair" the Vista install to get it up and running.

System2.
It sounds like either the video chip set is bad or the display is bad.
Try connecting a desktop monitor to the laptop to see if you get any video output at all.
