How do I find out what webcam I have???

Postby rohaninabout » Sun Nov 23, 2008 10:32 am

Hey guys,

My cousin just gave me his webcam. But he threw out the disc with the driver on it because he didnt think he would need it -.-

So anyways, my question is: Is there any way I can tell what the make and model of the webcam is? Theres no physical indication anywhere on it of the brand or anything.

Also, is there any generic webcam drivers? Or is it just like drivers for any other hardware?

Cheers

hmm.. usually there's a company logo of sorts on it. I know logitech and phillips do that anyway. If there's nothing on it then it might be something out of a bargain bin and finding drivers could be tricky.

This is worth a shot, plug it in, see if it installs itself.
Even if it doesn't you may be able to dig a bit deeper in search for a name.
Either way you might be able to just view what it sees by selecting it from MyComputer.

Yeah, it seems that I'm screwed without the disc :(.

In my computer it just says 'pc camera' so thats not much help lol.

Tomorrow I might upload a picture of it, maybe someone on here has the same one.

Thanks!

Try a program called Unknown Device Identifier. Or Everest. One of them may give you something. Also, if you get the Hardware ID in device manager and Google it, many times there are clues in the findings of the search.

try looking for a ID number on the actual camera its normally on the bottom of the camera or at the back. Google that and you might get your answer into who made it.

There is no indication of any number/code/brand anywhere on the camera robbro. Thanks for your help though!
