2 pc's on one monitor.

Postby badpolarbear » Mon Apr 06, 2009 4:18 pm

I have been messing with a few idea's with 2 pc's. I wanted to network them but with a dialup connection maxing at 28,800kps that makes things really slow. What I did is my Demensions 4700 has a Radeon X300 card. The new pc, Inspiron 530 has onboard video. I hooked the dvi cable to the radeon ( white cable) and the blue cable to the 530. This way I can toggle back and forth from one to the other by a button on the monitor. The only problem is I must have 2 keyboards and 2 mouse's. Is there a usb splitter cable that I could use so that I onlt need one keyboard and mouse or am I stuck with 2. It gets confusing and frustrating when you start typing and finally realize I wasn't using the right keyboard and have to start over again.

Cheers
Daniel

I've seen something before where multiple machines ran through 1 monitor. I think it was some kind of server setup and to change what was on the screen they did a keyboard combination like alt+scroll lock.

I think it's possible to do what you want but I don't know anything that could help :(

what your looking for is a KVM switch, i didnt post any links because they all vary but a good google search for it will show you what im talking about. I have one that accepts 4 machines that was fairly inexpensive.
