CPU Upgrade question

You know what I was thinking? Could this be a power issue? I mean if the cpu isn't getting enough juice to run at peak performance? I don't know...it's just a thought.

oh yea, they will pop right in a desktop. The main difference is the multiplier is unlocked so the speed can be changed according to use and power comsumption and desktop multipliers are locked so it limits the overclocking abilities. Your certainly welcome for the info also.

Thats indeed the part number i was talking about and it should be set at
fsb= 133
multiplier= 11.5
core voltage= 1.75

as we already covered.

With the voltage, that wont stop it from clocking correctly. If its low it will just crash or not boot, if its high it will run hot but speed isnt changed either way.

Now im puzzled. i dont know what in the world is keeping it held back.

Now just a thought for me, try loading optimized defaults then set the fsb again. Perhaps even clearing the bios would hurt either, forgive me if u already know how but there should be a jumper near the battery on the motherboard. Most often theres 3 pins and the jumper is on 2 of them. Take the jumper off pins 1 and 2 and put it on pins 2 and 3. Count to 10 then put it back. Power back up and it will usually post a message causing u to push F1 to continue. Note, sometimes in doing so it will also cause you to have to configure first boot device and so on. Again, sorry if your already familiar with that process but i figure it would save u the trouble of waiting on another reply if u didnt know.

Ok sorry for the late reply. I tried everything you said and no go. Here's what I did. I set

the "Optimized Defaults" and tried settings to 132 and 11.5 and no change. Next I found the

jumpers by the battery which had 3 pins so I pulled the shunt from 1 and 2 and set them to 2

and 3 for like 30 seconds (just in case) then set them back. The writting on the mobo next

to the jumpers said BAT1 if that makes a difference, I then went back to BIOS and set things

at 132 and 11.5, saved the settings and re-booted and it still only reads at 1150MHz. What

is the problem here? I have to say I've learned a bunch from this but I can't stand not

being able to solve a problem. Anyways, anymore ideas?

Just knowing those setting were right, i gave up and went downloaded that motherboard manual to see what bios options were actually there and i found what i didnt expect and u suspected in the very first post. A damn jumper.



I cant so anything but apologize for not looking it up sooner but i surely thought jumpers were pretty well phased out at that point. So now that we know, its still simple. The jumper shown is only on a 2 pin header, take the jumper off of the 2 pins and put it on 1 and it should clock correctly.

Ok the funny thing is I was going to ask if the correct jumpers should have been J17 because I'm pretty sure that's for CMOS right? I should have asked. Qell either way it worked and I'm a happy camper. CPU-Z is currently reading it at 1527GHz with the bus at 132.8 so I guess that's where it should be. I do have 3 questions for you though.

1.When I cleared the jumpers I just kept the shunt (jumper if you will) off instead of placing it back on 1. Is this ok?

2.Could you please send me the link to where you downloaded the mobo manual because I could not find one.

3.Is there a website you can go to to find mobo manuals?

i dont think there is a differnce between having it off and on 1 of the rods, but if you have it on one it means you wont loose it.

J17 is not for cmos, it set the fsb

3. best place is straight from the manufacture of the board

for future reference as well, i think the CMOS reset jumper is usually next to the battery on the mobo.
