Multiple Hard Drives.....better than a single?

Ok I got a pc from a friend and it came with 4 hard drives, three 40GB and one 120GB. What I want to do is to keep one 40GB and the 120GB but only if the 40GB will help speed things up. I figured if I install windows xp and all the updates on the 40 I can use the 120 for games and stuff. So my 2 questions really are is this necessary or should I just use the 120 by itself and the other question would be would I also need to install an OS on the second HD?

You could partition the 120 gb hard drive into a 40gb partition and an 80 gb partition. This would make it appear to have two separate hard drives (often like laptops do).

However, since you already have two hard drives, id say use them both. it just means you have more storage (and yea for the time being leave the 40gb drive to xp).

Look into setting up all 3 40GB HDDs in a . That'll get you the most speed.

Otherwise, you're not going to notice much of a speed boost with OS on one and aps/games on another.

You won't need an OS on both.
