New build, i am getting BSOD!!

Postby hittman305 » Mon Jul 13, 2009 10:17 pm

Ok, i just recently made a new build from scratch. ( ok, thats not true.. i kept the same graphics card, and dvd drive) I will list all the spec i am using at the bottom. Anyhow, so everything seems to work fine, i have windows xp installed..i am browsing the net, installing drivers,etc..no problems..but, when i install some progarms, and games, i get the bsod. i try again, and it let me install COD4 modern warfare..and i can even play it for a min..but the system locks up, and i get blue screen of death. ok, i look at the cpu tempeture in my BIOS menu, it is around 65-68 cels. that seems a little high to me, as BIOS has no real load.maybe the cpu temp goes too high when tryin to run big programs?.so maybe my cpu is overheating, is what i am guessing. The cpu cooler is stock, and is a piece of crap, it snaps on, and came pre-greased..but i dint put any grease myself. i am not over clocking or anything..so i wonder if i should just get a decent heatsink, for like 40 buks, and thermal grease, and maybe it will solve the problem? ANY HELP PLz??!

SPECS:

CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz
Mobo:Intel DP45SG
Ram:CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channe
Video card: Geforce 8800 GT

yea that temp is quite high and is most likely the culprit. I dont know much about intels stock cooling but you need to be way down in temps. Make sure the cooler is making good contact with the cpu, sounds like it might not be seated well. You should run in the high 40's low 50's especially when looking from within bios.
