System is slow

Postby bebong » Mon Sep 07, 2009 2:22 am

hi there,

my system has become slow, i do not think it is virus related since the system is not hooked up to the internet at all, and has never been.

Problem is, generally the computer is slow in certain places for example, control panel takes ages to load up, freezing along the way.
Taskmanager takes a little bit longer to load up, and overall my system is using far too much memory than before - so something is wrong.

here is the hijackthis log:

bebong,

I don't see anything bad in your HJT log.

Try clearing out your temp files.

Do you have any "Mapped Network Drives" on this system?

sorry, could you explain that a little?

well something must be up with my computer, control panel is extremely slow,
and some of the processes like explorer and a few other programs like realtek are using far too much memory which maybe why control panel is not opening up as fast as it used to be.

What good registry cleaners do you recommend?

ones which leave your computer intact and working afterwards?

i have found rated as 5 stars,

CCleaner and Eusing registry cleaner its a beta version i think, but has many good reviews

CCleaner is the least powerful one, but will help to remove some of the surface crap on the system

bebong,

I can recommend CCleaner as a reliable product to clean out your temp files.

"Mapped Network Drives" if you have other computer's drives listed in "My computer" then you have mapped drives. This can slow things down to a crawl if a mapped drive is unavailable.

What you are describing does sound like it could be an infection.
Before I recommend more aggressive tools, try CCleaner first and see if that helps.
