Computer Power problem

hi,

i have a big problem with my computer.

Everytime i play galactic civilisations 2 about 1 hour or even 30 mins into the game, the computer loses all power.

Booted the computer up again, tried this twice and it did the same, computer powers down when playing this game.

So i thought i would try with other games, tried it with a few more, no luck - computer stays on.

Tried letting the computer idle for about 1 hour, no luck either - computer stays on.


So would this be a Dying PSU or something to do with the motherboard,

Its not heat, no infection on computer, not connected to internet, not bad memory, i dont think - cant test that because my computer does not have a floppy drive - all phased out on modern computers.

looks like it might be the PSU,

because on the 12v rail, the voltage is only 5.18 or 5.05, so its the PSU that might not be working correctly, since the 12v i was told on another site must be 11v or there abouts, not well under

If your 12v rail is truly running at 5v then your system would not boot at all.

I would suspect an overheating issue first, try installing to see what temperature your system is running under full load.

i can run many games and still the computer is working ok,

it may be the PSU fan is not spinning at a rpm enough to cool the system down, but it still plays many games and theres not problem at all with them - just this game.

I think its the PSU, generally it is so im told with the voltage raitings like this, and if my computer wouldn't boot up, why does it boot up then with the volt ratings.

Just yesterday i sat and watched a 2 hour DVD - No problems whatso ever.

You might be misreading everest or everest is misreading you, your PSU has a 12v+ AND a 5v+ rail. Make sure your not confusing them.

Im with Gecko on the overheating, i think the particular game may stress your machine out more than the others your comparing too.

Installed a BRAND NEW PSU, and still the game galactic civ powers down the computer after a while say 20mins.

galactic civ though is a direct x9 game, and command and conquer tiberium wars a direct x10 game.

Now i know in theory which game is going to be harder to run on a machine, candc3, but whether the game galactic civ cannot handle dual core cpus or something, i dont know, im really lost on this one.

I dont think your understanding what were trying to tell you. In fact, we were trying to keep you from getting a psu and have you check temps instead which i think are still your problem. You need to see what your cpu temp is doing while its under a load which falls back to Geckos Advise.

Post your full specs, cpu-vid-mem-psu-mobo if you can
