I need help to access the set up of my new Wireless N router

Postby KenA » Thu Dec 10, 2009 9:30 am

Hi there,

I have a new Intellinet 4-port wireless N router and i want to set up security but i cant connect to it.

Ive tried using 192.168.1.1 as the user manual says but no joy.

Ive gone back to a dynamic ip address and still no joy.

Ive tried using Cisco's "Network Magic" but the wireless security section is greyed (my router isnt supported).

I also have it connected to an Aolynk Dsl broadband modem and i can connect to that via 192.168.1.1 no problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken.

How are you actually connected to the router, attempting wifi or using a cable?

What i would do is disconnect the modem temporarily and connect only the pc to the router using a cable then attempt to login just to get everything configured.

bit of research later:

intellinet use 192.168.2.1 by default.

Did you read the manual?

I did http://assets.mhint.s3.amazonaws.com/do ... manual.pdf

Sorry psymon.... I did read the manual and that was a typo I made. What I actually meant was I tried 192.168.2.1 with no joy. It doesn't connect . Might be to do with the way I'm connected cause my main modem is a modem/router. Maybe I can't connect to it with both connected together.

As liljim suggested I might try connecting the intellinet to my pc and see if I can connect that way. It's not a modem though....can I still connect to it liljim?

Ps...I'm connected using Ethernet cable

hummm. Ok, other thing that comes to mind is are you connected from pc to router with maybe a crossover cable instead of a straight cable. Most often, the cable from modem to pc was a crossover style.

A straight cable from pc to router, note that your not in the uplink/internet port and in a normal wired port, and sending your browser to the right address http://192.168.2.1 should get you to a login screen. If that doesnt, some where on the router should be a reset button. Id reset it to make sure everything is at default so you know you have the right ip address.

With everything connected, pc to router, router to internet, can the pc see the internet?

if so we can do a trace route command and find the routers ip that way.

assuming this is xp you would so start>run>type in cmd> enter
at the prompt type tracert http://www.google.com (or any site u prefer)
hit enter and it should look similar to this
trace.jpg
trace.jpg (81.82 KiB) Viewed 4736 times

note the first hop with the 1ms ping
the first one should be your routers ip

Liljim thanks for ur reply.

I got it sorted. I emailed Intellinet support and they came back with a full set of instructions.

I got into the set up eventually by directly connecting PC to router as u said. Originally i i was trying to connect the WAN port and when i connected to the LAN port it worked.

the main problem was the fact that the 192.168.2.1 Intellinet access wasnt for daisy-chaining and i got in and changed my routers default ip addrerss so i can access it in future without having to disconnect my adsl modem.

thanks.
