ZooS,

Please download to your desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

Do not exit Combofix while it is running you my loose all your personal settings!
Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running, that may cause it to stall.

When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Re: Malware attacking laptop

Postby ZooS » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:05 pm

Thank you for your reply.

Before I post these logs, please note what happened during process:-

- ComboFix.exe would at first not run from this computer's desktop (nothing opens upon clicking icon), nor would it run in Safe Mode. I experimented with an older download of ComboFix and this opened, but since it warned of being 'out of date' I did not run it. Then I changed the name of a 'newer' ComboFix.exe (obtained via Bleeping Computer) and it then finally ran from the desktop. Malware obstructing use of ComboFix?

- ComboFix warned to disable to Norton processes, I could not figure out how to do this (not my computer) and Norton would not 'open', so I just had to ignore this warning

- Computer not connected to the internet so could not obtain/install Microsoft Recovery Console

- ComboFix noted rootkit activity, I made a note of the Sys32 entires and allowed reboot to continue

3 logs below

[1] The owner of this computer had reported further problems since I posted the first HiJackThis log, so here is next HJT log before running ComboFix:-

ZooS,

It looks like combofix got everything that I can see.

How is it running now?

Re: Malware attacking laptop

Postby ZooS » Mon Jan 04, 2010 2:52 pm

The laptop seems to be running still a little slow, but it is not my own machine and at a glance I can see a fairly full hard drive as well as heavy Norton protection running.

So if ComboFix has dealt with the malware infection, then job done.

Thank you for your help, Gecko.

:)
