Apparently I have a trojan called Antispyware 2010

Postby DonBrock » Thu Feb 25, 2010 8:34 pm

This is nasty stuff. I can't access files or bring up programs. When I click on a program, I just get the "Open With" popup box. I am a "technoramus." Have no idea what to do. When I tried to access pctechforums.com yesterday night, my system was redirected to a sight to buy a spyware program. When I instead typed pctechforums.com into the command line, an AVG popup caught it and had me delete something so now I can use the Internet, at least. I brought up my system in safe mode and ran SpyBot which found some bad files it said disabled MS Firewall and Antivirus in some place called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, and then it removed those files but my computer still wasn't working after rebooting, so I brought it up in Safe Mode again and ran HiJackThis which produced a file. I still don't have access to my programs or files from Windows XP Home Edition. I am going to try to attach the HiJackThis log file but if it is not attached, it means I was unsuccessful. If I come up in safe mode to get the file, I can't load Internet Explorer to log into to PC Tech Forums. Also, I can download programs but can only install them and run them in Safe Mode. I down loaded Spyware Doctor cause it said it was free. When I ran it today, it found some stuff (listed below) but said it wouldn't remove it unless I subscribe which I'd rather not do unless I have to because I'm out of work right now. This is what Spyware Doctor said:

Trojan.TDSServ

In the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\swearware
In registry values
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\swearware, combofix_wow
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\swearware, Runs
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\swearware, snapshot

HELP!

Don't know if you got my file that I tried to attach. I got a message saying "the extension ".log" is not allowed" and changed it to .txt and then got a message that "extension .txt is not allowed."

DonBrock,

Boot your system into "Safe mode with networking" you should now be able to access the internet.

Please download to your desktop.

Next rename combofix.exe to cbf.exe
Now double click cbf.exe and follow the prompts.

Do not exit Combofix while it is running you my loose all your personal settings!
Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running, that may cause it to stall.

Your system will be rebooted by cbf.exe and reboot into normal mode to finish the scan and removal.
It might even reboot again after the scan depending on how deep the infection is.
When it's all finally done running it will produce a log for you.
Please copy and paste that log in your next reply.

Wish the news was good but things are still not working. Specifically, I cannot load any applications from Windows regular mode or access any files from any applications. I either get a message "Application not found" or the "Open With" pop up. The applications are there because when I come up in safe mode, under Administrator, I can run them, for instance MS Excel. But I can't access my files because they are under Owner. I'm also getting a message when I come up in regular Windows mode in a Windows Security Alert that says "Your computer might be at risk. No firewall is turned on. Click on this bubble to fix." When I click on the bubble, I just get the "Open With" box which mentions a file called rundll32.exe at the top. Also, maybe unrelated, but EVERY time I shut down it takes about 5 minutes and keeps giving me the message "Installing Update 1 of 1."

DonBrock,

Download OTL from to your desktop.
Double click on the icon to run it. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check. Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Re: Apparently I have a trojan called Antispyware 2010

Postby DonBrock » Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:02 pm

Hope it doesn't make any difference. I had to log in as Administrator to run any software, even in Safe Mode. If I log in as Owner, I can't run anything and could not have installed the diagnostic program OTL.

Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it greatly.

Today, I got a popup message from Spyware Doctor that said it blocked a "high risk trojan" called Trojan.Generic. Also, my system is running very, very, very slowly so I think something is going on.
