My router doesn't allow me to connect to the internet.

All computer hardware support

My router doesn't allow me to connect to the internet.

Postby maybeontuesday » Mon Mar 15, 2010 12:23 pm

Good day! :D
I'm new here. Nice to meet all of you!

Anyway, I'm not much into IT stuff but I do know how to configure IPs and all.
I am currently using an ASUS WL520g router and it's been doing ok until three days ago.
When I type in the address of my router (which in this case is 192.168.1.1) it says
it is disconnected and the reason is IP lost from server.

I have tried changing it to static, then bringing it back to automatic with only the DNS servers as static. It works, but the next time I open it, there is no connection again. Last night, I tried everything I could, but still no connection. When I connect the modem directly to the computer, I have connection. It's really distressing. I'm hoping I could find a solution to this here :)

I'd appreciate your help! :D
Thanks~

Hey and welcome to pctech. Hopefully i can help you out. Were going to start from scratch with very basic info so please dont take offense to seemingly newbish information.

The first thing is to set your pc to auto on both the IP and DNS servers.
Next is to unplug power to router and internet modem.
Wait 10 sec then plug modem back in and allow it to sync/connect to internet.
Once the modem is online, power up the router and see if you can then log into it.
Your computer should then pull an ip address from the router, if not you can reboot the machine or right click the connection and repair or use cmd to get a new ip address. You should end up with a 192.168.1.xxx address.
With that, you should be able to access the router from http://192.168.1.1 and possibly have internet access.

Try that and lets see where we wind up. Shouldnt need to change much in router settings if anything at all.

Hey there!~ :D
Thanks for the reply.

Anyway, I did as you told me and I can now log on to my router.
Thing is, I still can't access the internet. When the modem is directly connected to my box, it works fine. But upon hooking it up on the router, the yellow triangle warning sign always appears and says that I don't have internet access.

is the "yellow triangle warning sign" saying you have "limited or no connectivity"? (assuming this is win XP)

just thought of something.. wondering if theres not an ip conflict. If your connected directly to the modem, no router, can you log into the modem on the xxx.xxx.1.1 ip address? if so we might need to change the routers ip to a 0.1 then go from there.

I'm very sorry for the late reply. Here is the image of the yellow triangle and what it says.

ok so lets recap, everything was working fine previously right? Then out of the blue you lost access to the router and internet. So far, we have restored your router access but not internet?

log into your router and go to Status & Log > Status

whats the info there?

Hi maybeontuesday

Is your firewall on the computer turned on? If so try turning it off and see what happens.
