'page cannot be displayed' on some web pages

In the last couple of weeks, I get this message when I try getting into my internet banking page.

I can get to the bank's home page but the 'log in' page comes up with 'page cannot be displayed'.

I've tried all the recommended script enable/disable adjustments in IE6's tools/options - to no avail.

Would downloading Mozilla or Netscape possibly enable me to load these pages?

Before we really get into any fixes...Have you contacted your bank to make sure the site isnt down?
Have you had this problem with any other pages?

it's actually my dad's PC, not mine - I've been trying to help him out - no luck so far

he's contacted the bank and everything is fine their end - infact, I can get to the log in page on my pc but my dad can't on his

we are both using IE6 and MYIE - I have Win XP Home, he has Win XP Pro

I even sent him a little program called LSPfix, which I read somewhere else could overcome this problem - made no difference

seems he's getting this problem on pages where a secure log in is required - certainly secure pages, like bank log in page

Here are a few places to check to see if you can find something. In IE click on Tools/Internet Options/Security/Restricted sites button/Sites. Scroll down the list to see if the url address for the bank sign on has been added by accident. If it has then remove it. The next thing to check is to locate the HOST file if one exist and see if anything has been added that should not be in it. Another thing that might help is to clean out all the cookies on the PC and empty the temporary internet files.

Also, does the Computer have the latest Windows Critical Updates?

just about to download the latest updates from Microsoft - fingers crossed!!

ie6 service pack 1 didn't work - so the update to the service pack won't work

Download and install . Now Run it and post a copy of the Log File here.

You might want to look at the dates of these post your bringing back to life, pretty sure the problem was solved 7 years ago
