Stuttery PC

The last couple of months I've noticed that, while playing an online video game, my pc seems to stutter periodically. The display will slow and jump and then carry on as normal. It happens on average every 4-5 minutes or so. Recently I've also had two incidents where the display has just frozen but the sound has been ok. I had to cold boot and rejoin the game.

first thought is video heat, check your vid card heat sink and cpu heatsinks. Chances are they just need to be cleaned out.
