I have to say, I've been online this am for 45 minutes without the problem surfacing. Crossing my fingers.

trouble in the homeland. I got bumped off right after I posted above then could NOT reconnect. It said it was missing a dialer.brt? I had to do a system restore to even reinstall the isp software. Now I'm going to be afraid to touch anything.

I'm sorry you're having all this difficulty.
Since you've restored are you having the exact same symptoms/problems?

It seems that this is becoming a real problem and I think we need to ask ourselves one question. Would it not be better to take one day and back up or save important info from our system and do a reformat rather than spend 3 or 4 days trying to figure out the problem. Down time is wasted time. Im not trying to be rude or harsh here just trying to be logical and efficient. I know reformat is a pain in the butt but sometimes it is the fastest and simplest resolve. Im only sorry I cant help more in this situation. Daniel

I have had this problem since I bought the computer in November. I had a different ISP and I thought it was THEIR problem. I got the ISP I have now and had the same problem. Do you suppose there is a defect in the computer itself? Or something that is included in the Windows XP? I sent this computer back 3 weeks ago because it froze. I rented one and the problem didn't exist on it. Now I have this one back WITH A NEW HARD DRIVE and still have the problem.

Perhaps you might like to consult another web site and get a second opinion. Try Annoyances.org and see what they have to say. Perhaps contact your service provider and have them run a diagnostic to see if there is a problem. Get them to run through your settings. If all esle fails try a reformat, start over fresh and see what happens. If the problem persists take it back to the store where you bought it and get them to check it out. If it is a new system there should be a warranty. Daniel

IMHO... It points to the software of your ISP. i.e. bartshel
Why can't you uninstall their software and access them in the normal way?

Perhaps try this site. It is suggesting bartshel is a maliscious dialer.

What does that mean? I had a different ISP awhile back and it did the same thing. OR are you saying that bartshel isn't a part of peoplepc? Is it something that's on my computer already?

Do a search for bartshel.exe an the net and look to see what it says. There are a number of pages suggesting what the problem is and the proper method for removal.

OK it says it's part of peoplepc. If that's so, what will I do for an internet? I've paid for a year of it. I must say though that I had WMCONNECT when I got this computer and it started to do the same thing AFTER I got this computer. It was fine before that!

On the web sites I viewed it was suggesting bartshel.exe is a maliscious dialer. I do recall seeing the removal tools on those sites. Read the instructions carefully and execute them precisely. From what I have seen in the posts for this problem all the tools have been presented for the solution, now its just going to be try all the resolves and see which one works. But I serious believe that instead of trying for several days to resolve a problem it might be easier to just reformat and start fresh. By the time you finish trying all the available solutions you might have had your system cleaned out and been up and running smoothly. Just remember the longer you allow this problem to continue it can be causing more damage to your system. When we have a crack in our windshield on our vehicle we dont wait until it comes crashing in on us before we change it. Daniel

click on that link and the instructions are there. Remember to save any important info or pictures you have on your system first. I think you will find out it is easier than you think. Daniel
