Win XP to Win 2000

Postby gotcha » Sat Mar 13, 2004 4:17 am

Hi to all. This is for a good friend. She has Windows XP and is not too keen on it. Her old O/S was Windows 2000 Prof (legal) Can she just put Windows 2000 back in and install it and would it just override the XP or would it format and make you lose all your files?
Hope you can understand my layman's way of explaining things!

Microsoft Windows do not let you downgrade.
You can do a couple of things:

Do a clean install of WinXp. (fdisk/Format)

Partion the current HD and install Win2000 on the new partition. Then move/install what you need and delete the Winxp partition.

Add a "Slave" HD and install WinXp on it. Then move/install what you need on it and then make it your "Master" drive.

Thank you both very much for answering. After digesting what you say I am going to tell her that I would stay with Win XP ! Anyway I have Win XP and am very pleased with it.
