Computer freezing durin network activity!

Postby adminnate » Mon Mar 22, 2004 7:56 pm

Heres my problem...

My computer freezes... TOTALLY LOCKS UP! I cant move the mouse, use the keyboard, everything on the screen stops moving, my activity light on my cable modem isnt solid anymore but it blinks... I have to hold my power button to shut my PC off or press the reset button.

This happens when....
Playing online games
Surfing the internet
Doing things in my e-mail
When I start my server up (its a game server for Ultima Online... the program I use for server is RunUO (www.runuo.com))

I tried plugging my PC into different outlets (thought maybe no constant flow)
I tried checking for IRQ issues... heres what IRQs it uses
-----Object-------------------------IRQ----------------------
Networking Device 5
Serial BUS Controller 11
Serial BUS Controller 11
Serial BUS Controller 11
Serial BUS Controller 5
IDE 14
Multimedia Device 11
Display Adapter 11
ACPI 9

I also have tried moving my network card to a different slot
I have tried moving fans around and taking side off my case
(my cpu temp is always around 34-45 Celsius)

HELP!!!!

Unless i've overlooked something, your logfile looks ok.The one thing i see that could be an issue is your ram.PC2100 isnt fast enough for your cpu,i would recomend atleast PC3200.Your currently overclocking your ram which will cause the problems your having.

Log does look pretty good. What bothers me are these Processes:
C:\DOCUME~1\GIGA\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD2.tmp\jinstall.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\GIGA\LOCALS~1\Temp\jinstaller142_04.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\GIGA\LOCALS~1\Temp\Jav11.tmp.exe
Did the problem start after installing this Java2? It should have installed and shouldn't be in your Processes. Have you rebooted since installing?

Postby adminnate » Wed Mar 24, 2004 7:36 pm

I wasnt aware of any other questions... but heres something I also need to point out...

I didnt think I was overclocking my RAM... in the BIOS I have the speed going "By SPD" I COULD put it at 133MHz (which would be 266 since its DDR)
Also... that stick from my uncle IS PC2100...

-Nate

P.S. I was running the java installer while I checked with hijackthis
The iv had this problem with trying a different hard drive and ethernet card so I think it MUST be the modem =/
When im at my uncles it doenst freeze (he is on a router and has a perfectly fine cable modem) so the problem must be with my modem.
