modem question

I have a cheap lucent v.92 56k modem. I recently had a power surge, and replaced the mobo on my computer. I now have a UPS with surge protection for rj11 plugs. Initially after replacing the mobo, I could connect to the internet no problem. All of a sudden I get a no dial tone message. The plugs are all in the right in/out spots. The drivers are current, and device manager shows no problems with it. I also have a dial tone going through the modem, as I hooked a phone out of the modem and it works. Any suggestions?
