Thanks for responding! I'll try to elaborate.

The error message I am getting is from Internet Explorer, not Microsoft's website. It says that my current security settings prevent running ActiveX controls. I get this same message from any ActiveX-enabled web site.

Yes, I HAVE messed with my Security levels in my internet options. I have added Microsoft to my trusted sites, but I also tried lowering my "Internet" zone settings to "Low" (temporarily) and also doing a custom configuration to allow ActiveX through. I have also tried setting all my settings back to "default", which should allow update to work, but doesn't in my case. It seems to me like the error message doesn't really indicate where the issue is, since it doesn't appear to be in the security settings. This is why I'm befuddled!

I don't think it's an issue with the Windows Update controls, because it doesn't even get to that point. This ActiveX problem is preventing them from even attempting to load. I should point out that the problem isn't just with Windows Update, it is with any site with any ActiveX control on it (e.g. www.macromedia.com).

Another interesting note is that I'm also using the Mozilla Firefox browser and it runs non-MS activeX sites just fine. (at least macromedia.com and shockwave.com, those are the only two I tested).
