IE freezing

Postby macro8 » Fri Apr 16, 2004 1:55 pm

Running IE on XP. Sometimes when i go and click on a web page hyperlink the page just freezes and locks up. The only way to remove the page is to hit Ctrl + Alt + delete and end the task, which causes an error report to appear. Has even occured in the my outlook inbox when i clicked on a link, resulting in the deletion of all my inbox contents. A major pain. Run norton and have not located any viruses. Have no idea what is the cause. Can anybody help??

Thanks

Have a Dell 2.6GHtz

Have you run spybot to check for spyware?

I agree with Restek...Here's the link and another suggestion:
Download / Install / Update / and Run .

If you're still having problems:
Download and install . Now Run it and post a copy of the Log File here.

After finally installing spybot S&D (due to numerous freezing of pages) it returned roughly 10 spyware programs which I removed. Reconnected to the web and after a few minutes some pages still froze (although if I open a new page up using shift and select then it occurs less frequently, bizarre). The report of the hijack this is as follows. I have also included one of the error reports which occurs when I have to use the task manager function. Again thanks for any feedback.

erroe report

First empty your Temp folder. Then empty your Temporary Internet folder.
Have HiJack This Fix/Remove:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe
Update your Anti Virus Program and run a complete system scan.

The first line of the scan results which i can select to be fixed using scan this starts at the line:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.iesearch.freeserve.com/iesearch/default.htm

It seems i cannot select the C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuauclt.exe with hijack this to fix it. I am i missing something really obvious when using scan this?

My fault. Little hard to remove a Process from there...sorry.
You've got a Trojan. Follow the simple Registry edit from here: .
