XP search = not so good

I really don't like winxp's search program... i find it very annoying to use. I downloaded a 3rd party utility called ava find, but it keeps bugging me to upgrade to the pro version.

does anyone want to recommend another program to try?

with the XP search, you have that little dog as an assistant, you MUST choose "pictures, music, video" "documents, (word processing, spreadsheet, etc)" "all files and folders" or "computers or people"

I just want a very fast, quick way to find a file that I need... such as a faulty .dll or something.

Did you like any of those programs?

teststrips... I don't have any problems with WinXp's search engine. Have you tried clicking on "Change preferences" while in "Search"? You can get rid of the animated character and pretty much get to a "Classic" view.

Do you have Indexing turned off? That really speeds the searching.
