Need Help!

Postby MRD » Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:51 pm

Hello,

I built a computer about a year ago, and it just recently, and suddenly, stopped working.

I woke up yesterday morning, and turned on my computer. The computer seemed to turn on normally, made all it's usual noices, however I got no response from the moniter, what so ever. It remained in powersave mode.

Powerdown, reboot, same thing. First thought: somethings wrong with the moniter; try another one. No good.

Since yesterday morning, I have tried different PSUs, Video Cards, Memory, I took out everything except the bare essentials i.e. LAN card, CD-Rom.

I replaced the motherboard, and CPU. Still same problem.

You could say I'm stumped. I have replaced every part in my case. And still get the SAME problem.

The only time I ever got a breath of hope, was early on in this fiasco, I replaced my CMOS battery, and my moniter began responding, I started seeing the bootscreen. However, (I have a dual boot) and whenever it asked me to select which OS to load, it would freeze immediatly. It would also freeze as soon as I entered BIOS.

My old specs were:
AMD XP 1700+ TBred
Iwill KK400 VIA KT666 Motherboard
Radeon 9700 Pro
768 MB Ram
Antec 400W PSU

Thanks, and please HELP!

Have you tried to clear the CMOS?

When you take the battery in and out, or replace it, it automaticly clears CMOS, no?

With the new motherboard, I did try to clear CMOS, I may have done it wrong, but then again : You power down, switch the jumper, wait, put it back, and power back on. Not too much to screw up I don't think.

I may have made a little progress though.

I used a totally different computer, and only tried to boot it up using my harddrive. It would get as far as Verifing DMI Pool Data, then power down, and restart. I tried to boot into safe mode, but got a blue screen that said, run CHKDSK, and a virus scan. I ran CHKDSK, and everything seemed normal, I'm running a virus scan right now (2 actually).

However, even if I find a virus, could a virus really cause the problems I'm having?
